We got to know the LG X screen during the launch event. Let us share our experience with you. This device will be available in black, white, pink and gold colors. We got a chance to spend some time with the black color variant. The new LG X has not one but two screens on the front panel. Apart from this, this handset is equipped with ‘Always On Display’ feature.
The first thing that strikes you when you hold the LG X Screen in your hands is how light the phone is. At just 120 grams, the LG X Screen is far ahead of other smartphones in its segment. The LG X Screen has a 4.93-inch primary display. The main TFT LCD display has an HD resolution of 720×1280 pixels. The HD display is extremely vibrant and outputs bright colors.
The secondary display of the X Screen is 1.76 inches and has a resolution of 80×520 pixels. It has a smaller screen than other phones, which will reduce battery consumption. The secondary screen is above the main display.
The good thing about the second screen is that it is easily accessible. The phone has four quick tools for sound profile, Wi-Fi, flashlight and SOS.
LG said at the launch event that the X Screen is the first smartphone in India to be launched with SOS feature. You must be aware that from next year every phone in India will come with SOS feature (panic button). The SOS feature can be accessed through the second display in LG X Screen, or it is also possible to access it by pressing the power button five times in sequence. According to LG, the SOS mode automatically sends an alert to the emergency contact set by the handset user. Unfortunately, we were not able to test this feature of the phone due to not having an active SIM card.
In the limited time we spent with the LG Xscreen, we found its second screen to be quite useful. It will help save users’ time. Apart from this, the Always On screen will always display your name or other text.
The rear of the handset is made of glass. At first glance, it reminded us of LG Nexus 4. The difference is that LG X screen has plain glass while Nexus 4 comes with a glossy design. The power button and hybrid SIM slot are on the right side of the handset. Users can use two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM card and microSD card at a time. The volume buttons are on the left side. 3.5mm audio jack, charging port and speaker grill are at the bottom.
The phone comes with LG’s custom skin based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The interface of LG X Screen is very simple and easy. We did not have any problem in finding any feature. The home screen has dialer, messages, camera, gallery and chrome. LG has used on-screen navigation buttons instead of capacitive buttons in this phone.
Like the older LG dual SIM phones, users have an on-screen button to access SIM management settings. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage is 16GB.
The handset supports microSD cards up to 2TB. In the limited time we spent with the LG X Screen, we found that it handles multitasking with ease.
The 13-megapixel rear camera took decent photos in normal indoor lighting. Low light photos are slightly better than average. We managed to take good quality selfies with the 8-megapixel front camera. You get a lot of modes and options for the rear camera in the camera app. We found the rear camera to focus quickly which is another of its strengths. However, we will have to wait for a detailed review to know the performance and camera quality of the LG X Screen smartphone.
Final Thoughts
At first glance, the price of the LG X Screen at Rs 12,990 may seem a bit high, especially when compared to phones with better specifications in this range. The downside is the use of HD display instead of full-HD. And the fingerprint scanner has to be added to this list. But the phone’s ‘Always On Second’ screen feature will be able to garner applause. Apart from this, SOS mode is also a feature worth noting.
We believe that the biggest challenge for LG’s new X-Screen is to beat popular handsets like Moto G4 Plus and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. We will have to wait a bit to know the performance of LG X-Screen in the Indian market.
