Apple iPhone China sales dropped 19 percent know reason

Apple faced significant hurdles in the Chinese smartphone market in the first quarter of 2024. Despite a global increase in smartphone shipments, Apple reported a sharp 19 percent drop in iPhone sales in China, its worst performance since 2020. This slowdown led to a decline in market share from 19.7 percent to 15.7 percent compared to last year, leaving Apple in third place behind Vivo and Honor.

There can be many reasons for the decline in iPhone sales. Especially the government’s ban on the use of Apple devices by employees has reduced the company’s sales. Apart from this, Huawei has made a strong comeback. Due to the launch of the high-end Mate 60 series, Huawei’s sales have increased by 69.7 percent. This strong growth put Huawei in fourth place in market share and captured 15.5% of the market.

Apart from this, there was a decline due to low demand for Apple devices. Apple had offered discount campaigns and subsidies up to 1,300 yuan (about Rs 15,005) to attract customers in the Chinese market, but despite this, Apple had to struggle to maintain its hold in the market.

Apple is expecting sales to improve in the second quarter of 2024. Counterpoint Research experts suggest that new color options and better sales initiatives may lead to a change in iPhone sales. Apple will now release its upcoming earnings report on May 2, where investors expect more details about the company’s strategy to address challenges in China. Apple is facing strong competition and regulatory challenges. Its response in the coming months will determine how much things change in the world’s largest market.
