ZDNet Korea has quoted smartphone industry sources in a report that Samsung plans to launch an entry-level clamshell-style foldable smartphone along with a tri-fold smartphone with a screen that folds twice. Both these smartphones can be launched next year. Samsung has the highest share in the market of foldable smartphones. It has been claimed in this report that the components of the tri-fold smartphone have been planned. A few months ago, Samsung introduced Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 in its series of foldable smartphones. However, the demand for these smartphones has been less than the company’s estimates.
Huawei has initially introduced Mate XT Ultimate Design in China. The base variant of this tri-fold smartphone with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is priced at CNY 19,999 (approximately Rs 2,35,900). The prices of its 512 GB and 1 TB storage variants are CNY 21,999 (approximately Rs 2,59,500) and CNY 23,999 (approximately Rs 2,83,100) respectively. Mate XT Ultimate Design has been made available in Red and Black colors. This dual SIM smartphone runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 out-of-the-box. Its screen when unfolded is 10.2 inches (3,184 x 2,232 pixels). The flexible LTPO OLED screen of this smartphone is 7.9 inches (2,048 x 2,232 pixels) when folded once and 6.4 inches (1,008 x 2,232 pixels) when folded the second time.
On the outside, the smartphone sports a 50-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an aperture between f/1.2 and f/4.0. This smartphone has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5.5x optical zoom and f/3.4 aperture. There is an 8-megapixel camera on its display for selfies and video calls.
