What is special in Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime…

Samsung has launched its new smartphone Galaxy On7 Prime in the price segment of Rs 15,000. The moment you hold the phone in your hand, it reminds you of Samsung’s Galaxy J7 Prime, but it is completely different from it in some aspects. Galaxy On7 Prime comes equipped with features like 13-13 megapixel front and rear cameras, Samsung Pay Mini and Samsung Mall. The smartphone runs on Samsung Experience 8.5 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

For the 3GB and 32GB storage variant of Galaxy On7 Prime, you will have to pay Rs 12,990, whereas if you prefer 4GB and 64GB storage, then you will have to pay Rs 14,990. The exclusive sale of this smartphone will start on Amazon India from January 20. To compete with popular smartphones like Xiaomi Mi A1, Lenovo K8 Note and Nokia 5, Samsung has added some apps and unique software features in On7 Prime. We spent some time with this handset at the launch event and tested this phone. How did we like this Samsung handset at first glance? Let us tell you…

Before going into details, we will talk about a new feature called ‘Samsung Mall’, which Samsung has brought to India for the first time. With the help of this app, users will be able to buy their favorite product online from all e-commerce sites at one place. The specialty of this feature is that you can take a picture of any product and buy the same product online. It has been claimed about the feature that with the help of image recognition, your favorite product will be added to the cart in one click, which you will be able to buy easily by making online payment.

When we tested this feature, we found that many of the items we selected were not matching. Apart from this, there was a problem in framing any shot. But this is an initial experience. The final decision on this will be given only after reviewing the handset. On the other hand, this app did identify some popular smartphones like Google Pixel 2 and iPhone 7 Plus. Hopefully this feature will improve with time.

Talking about the design, Galaxy On7 Prime looks quite similar to Galaxy J7 Prime. This smartphone, which comes with a metal body like J7 Prime, weighs 167 grams. The phone is 151.7 mm long, 75 mm wide and 8 mm thick. In On7 Prime, you get a 5.5-inch full HD screen, which comes with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. It has a PLS TFT LCD screen with 16:9 aspect ratio. 2.5D curved glass has been used for premium look. The display is similar to other Samsung smartphones, in which you will get a combination of better viewing angle, color and good brightness.

The home button is placed below the display and there are capacitive buttons on both sides. One button is for multitasking and the other is for going back. The home button is also a fingerprint sensor. We found the fingerprint sensor to be accurate and fast. Just above the display is a 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture. We found the Galaxy On7’s front camera takes natural pictures and doesn’t add unnecessary filters. Keeping in mind the craze for Instagram and Snapchat stickers, Samsung has incorporated the sticker feature in the smartphone itself.

The primary camera of Galaxy On7 Prime is also 13 megapixels, with f/1.9 aperture. It is also equipped with autofocus. At first glance, the autofocus feature seemed a bit weak. While taking macro shots, we did not get the results as expected. Let us tell you that Samsung has claimed about both the cameras that the user will get better photo quality even in low light. We could not test this at the launch event, but while reviewing in detail, we will definitely make you aware of the truth of the claims.

Only the camera and LED flash occupy the back of the smartphone. You will also see the Samsung logo here. Due to its metal body, this phone will fit better in your palm.

The loud speaker and power/lock buttons are provided on the right side of the phone. The volume buttons, SIM card slot and microSD card slot are provided on the left side. Apart from this, the phone has a micro-USB port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the bottom.

Talking about hardware, Samsung’s own octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset has been used in On7 Prime. We will discuss in detail about the performance of this processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz in our review. At the launch event, we got the variant with 4 GB RAM, which did not pose any major problem in use.

This smartphone will run on Samsung Experience 8.5 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The company has not said anything about the Android 8.0 Oreo update yet. Since there have been reports of beta Oreo update in Galaxy J7 Prime, we hope that the latest Android will knock on On7 Prime as well.

Apart from the Samsung Mall feature, this smartphone supports Samsung Pay Mini, which will work as an online wallet and UPI for you. Due to lack of internet, we were not able to use this feature in the launch event. Apart from this, you will get features like one hand mode, camera shortcut, multi window, split screen and smart alert in the phone. Smart alert will alert you about missed calls and messages. Along with this, Galaxy On7 Prime will come with apps like Microsoft Office and LinkedIn. Like other smartphones of today, you will also get apps like Google, Gmail and YouTube pre-installed in it.
